I just saw your Google video. Very nice.
Towards the end you mentioned the notion of the externalization knowledge and said that there has been a lot of work on the subject. I’d be interested in your set of references on the subject.
I’m interested in this issue because (naturally) I recently wrote a related paper, “
If a tree casts a shadow is it telling the time?,” which argues that computation is the externalization of (procedural) thought.
Andy Clark’s “Being There” is a terrific book on the topic. Marshall McLuhan is no slouch either.
BTW, I love the title of your paper and look forward to reading it.
